Paul Butler BIO
Paul Butler (b. 1973, Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a multidisciplinary Canadian artist whose practice is rooted in collaboration, community engagement, and artist-run culture. Working in collage, social practice, and curatorial projects, Butler frequently incorporates found imagery and social commentary, challenging conventional roles within the art world. Since the 1990s, he has developed a practice grounded in experimental models and alternative pedagogies.
He is the founder of several notable initiatives, including The Collage Party (1997), a traveling collective studio inviting public participation in collage-making; The Other Gallery (2001), a nomadic platform for underrepresented artists; and UpperTradingPost.com (2007), an online hub for artist-to-artist exchange. In 2008, he launched Reverse Pedagogy, an artist-led residency focused on collaborative learning. These projects reflect his ongoing commitment to inclusivity, peer exchange, and accessibility in contemporary art.
